LONDON, 24 Sept: Sarawak continues to strengthen its position as a leader in the semiconductor and green technology industry through the launch of two new technologies and the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with international strategic partners.

The event held at ExCeL London witnessed the launch of SMD Semiconductor’s latest technology, namely keteq.GaN, a Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based power device and keteq.ai power converter driven by artificial intelligence (AI).

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg officiated the launch and also witnessed the exchange of two MoUs between SMD Semiconductor and international strategic partners.

The first MoU involves collaboration with Camutronics, XFAB Dresden and CSA Catapult UK for the development of GaN HEMT technology.

Meanwhile, the second MoU involves Sarawak Energy Berhad, 5G3i and CSA Catapult for the development of keteq.ai power converter which is currently in the process of registering international copyright.

According to Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, this launch marks a new level of expertise in the semiconductor field, especially with the introduction of Gallium Nitride power devices that can withstand high temperatures.

“Today we witness another level of expertise in the semiconductor field with our partners, namely the keteq.GaN technology using Gallium Nitride.

“It is able to withstand heat, thus allowing data and information to be stored on wafers with the use of high-power energy.

“This means that we have a new method of data storage and solutions to data needs. This is on a very competitive level in the semiconductor industry,” he said at the ceremony here on Wednesday local time.

He also stressed the importance of innovation and cross-border cooperation to strengthen Sarawak’s position in the global ecosystem.

“More importantly, we continue to collaborate to create new technologies. This new technology will increase production efficiency and produce innovative products.

“I am very pleased because this success is the result of various parties including experts, suppliers, as well as SMD from Sarawak who have joined forces in one ecosystem.

"This global collaboration will pave the way for the development of new technologies, reduce carbon emissions, and build an environmentally friendly working environment,” he said.

The launch proves that Sarawak is not just a participant in the global semiconductor value chain, but is now emerging as a leader in technological innovation and green economy, in line with the state’s aspiration to become an internationally competitive semiconductor hub.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Works, Dato’ Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and Petros), Dato Ibrahim Baki and Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapaee, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development), Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, SMD Semiconductor CEO, Shariman Jamil, and CSA Catapult CEO, Raj Gawera. -UKASnews
