BRISTOL, May 5: The Sarawak Government continues to invest in high-level human capital development through a full sponsorship initiative for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, announced that the program, managed through a collaboration between Yayasan Sarawak and SMD Semiconductor, will produce experts in the field of semiconductor technology.
“Investment in human capital is crucial. We recognize that long-term success depends on our ability to develop talent, build expertise, and retain those capabilities,” he said during a strategic semiconductor engagement session with the University of Bristol here.
The four-year PhD program is part of the strategic plan under the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030 to ensure the state has a skilled workforce capable of competing globally.
The strategic engagement session was also attended by major UK-based industry players such as Rolls Royce, GKN Aerospace, and Nexperia, showing deep interest in Sarawak’s innovation ecosystem.
According to Abang Johari, international collaborations like this allow Sarawak to learn faster and strengthen its position in the global technology ecosystem. – TVS
