KUCHING, 19 May 2026 — Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, today witnessed the exchange of documents for a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SMD Semiconductor Sdn. Bhd., Photovoltaic Foundry Pte. Ltd. and Jiangsu Linyang Energy Co. Ltd. at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here.
The MoU formalises strategic cooperation between the three parties in supporting semiconductor innovation, energy technologies and digital infrastructure solutions.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen efforts in the development and commercialisation of semiconductor technologies for applications such as next-generation solar inverters, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), smart metering technologies and intelligent infrastructure systems.
The initiative also provides a platform for Sarawak-developed semiconductor technologies to progress from research and development into commercial and industrial deployment, including the development of local-content equipment embedded with SMD semiconductor chips and proprietary technologies for renewable energy applications.
In addition, the partnership is expected to support the implementation of large-scale and rooftop solar projects, in line with Sarawak’s broader agenda to strengthen its position as a regional green energy hub.
Also present were the Sarawak State Financial Secretary and Chairman of SMD Semiconductor, YBhg. Dato Sri Wan Lizozman bin Wan Omar, and Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS), Datuk Haji Ibrahim bin Baki.
Representing SMD Semiconductor were Chief Executive Officer Shariman Jamil, Chief Technology Officer Chia Chieu Yin, Chief Financial Officer Shahril Anas Hasan Aziz, and board member Dr. Peter Morin Michael Pa’ong, who is also General Manager of the Sarawak Research Development Council (SRDC).
Also in attendance were top executives from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), including Group Chief Operating Officer Dato Ir. James Ung and Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development Dr. Chen Shiun, as well as President Assistant of Linyang Group, April Zhang. - Sarawakku
